This lot brings together two of the most prestigious Mencía expressions from Bierzo’s stellar 2023 vintage, both produced by the renowned family estate Castro Ventosa / Raúl Pérez. These wines hail from centennial vines, limited production, exquisite terroir, and the winemaking signature that has pushed Bierzo into the global spotlight.

Terroir, Winemaking & Distinctions

Cepas Centenarias is sourced from very old vines, planted on a single limestone/sandy-clay-slate parcel. It features ~30-40% whole clusters, indigenous yeasts, long maceration, and ageing in selected French oak barrels. The resulting wine balances fruit concentration with finesse, minerality and long structured tannins. 
Vente à la Propriété

Vino de Villa is a village-level cuvée that sources from several parcels around Valtuille (La Rata, El Val, Mata los Pardos, etc.), capturing freshness, elegance, and the layered identity of the village terroir. Typically aged in used oak barriques/foudres with gentle extraction to preserve pure Mencía character. 

Tasting Profile

Expect vibrant aromas of red and dark berries, violets, wild herbs, and subtle earth/mineral tones; the palate is refined and balanced, with polished tannins, excellent acidity, and a finish that is both persistent and elegant. Cepas Centenarias delivers depth and power; Vino de Villa shows approachability without sacrificing finesse.

Cellar Conditions & Provenance

These bottles have been stored under excellent cellar conditions: stable low temperature, controlled humidity, protection from light and vibration. Labels, fill levels, corks are all in pristine condition. Photographic proof of provenance is available.
