VANTA - Hermatite

“Hematite” (2025) Diptych - Oil on canvas 130 x 200 cm total (two canvases, each 130 x 100 cm) Working across two canvases adds another layer of complexity to VANTA’s wet-removal technique. “Hematite” had to be executed as a coordinated action - both deep red foundations laid down simultaneously, then the removal process flowing across the divide between panels. The ribboning forms don’t stop at the edge of one canvas, they continue their logic into the adjacent panel, creating a unified composition that happens to exist on two separate surfaces. This requires planning the entire composition in advance while maintaining the spontaneity that makes the technique work. Available on Catawiki, the diptych format means collectors get flexibility in how they display the work - the panels can hang with a small gap between them or flush against each other, subtly changing how the eye reads the continuous flow of removed paint. The scale becomes more dramatic when spread across two panels. Those flowing red ribbons carved from the wet deep red field gain even more presence, creating an almost architectural sense of space. It’s VANTA’s high-risk technique amplified by the challenge of maintaining consistency across two separate surfaces. Shipping: The work is delivered without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). it can easily be restretched by a professional or on your own, this is also cheaper then the otherwise increased cost of shipping when sending paintings of this size stretched The measurements indicated are those of the painting stretched and mounted on a frame (The actual measurements of the canvas are larger to allow it to be mounted on a frame 2-4 cm thick.
