A lovely Chinese porcelain blue and white porcelain bowl from Wanli period (1573-1620), late Ming dynasty. On the wall exterior decorated the bowl with two blossoming daylily plants. Together flying two abstract butterflies in between the two flowers, this Chinese traditional motif of ‘萱耋图’ depicts the auspicious blessing mother owing great longevity and the family with harmony and happiness. In the center of the bowl painted in under-glazed blue with a flower spray in a line cycle. Another blue line around the rim interior and exterior. The base of the bowl bears an underglazed blue mark ‘富贵佳器’ (fù guì jiā qì, with the meaning of a fine and luxurious artifact), which is one of classic marks from Jiajing-Wanli period.
The plant lily painted on Chinese porcelain ware is easily to be mixed up with orchid and narcissus. The knob-shaped bud and the leaves growing from the stalk feature the design on this BW Wanli bowl here out to be daylily.
