This lot comes from the private collection of Mr. J. Bahamonde who over a period of 20 years acquired his collection from various prestigious dealers and has now decided to downsize his beloved collection. His degree in ancient Near East and Roman Britain archaeology from Manchester University, one of the best in the U.K. and passion for ancient history is reflected in this intriguing pre-historic artefact.
A large hand axe; with patination from deposition in mineral-rich deposits; expertly knapped with a thin section and broad section, some cortex remaining; with location spot description 'Auigny, Cos [..] / Les [...] / Z.B. No. 14'.
Length: 16.7 cm.
Condition: Very fine, age related patina. Found in Auigny, Chere, France.
Provenance From the collection of amateur archaeologist Mr M. Allais.
