Baktrian Kingdom. Diodotus I/II, as Satrap (ca. 255-235 BC). Stater - NGC AU

Obv.: Head of Diodotus I wearing a diadem, facing right. Rev.: Zeus striding left, with an aegis draped over his extended arm, hurling a thunderbolt; at his feet an eagle. In the fields, vertical inscriptions: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ. This coin was struck during the formative period of the independent Greco-Bactrian Kingdom, which at first maintained formal allegiance to the Seleucids. Diodotus I, satrap of Bactria, declared independence around 255 BC, yet continued issuing coins in the name of Antiochus II to preserve economic and political stability. Gold staters from this issue are extremely rare, especially in such fine condition. The obverse shows an ancient test cut, with much of the original mint luster still intact and an impressively sharp strike Very Rare in high grade #numismaticscollectorcf
