Theo Niermeijer (1940-2005) - Untitled (from the series Rust Drawings)

Iron oxide on recycled white cardboard Signed and dated 92 in pen upper right Red stamp upper right Size : 90,5 x 63,5 cm Theo Niermeijer was a Dutch sculptor, painter, graphic artist, installation artist and architect. He was educated in Amsterdam and Antwerp and later in Warsaw. He had a studio in Amsterdam and in a northern France. Niermeijer was a metal artist. He used copper and zinc to make etchings, iron and stainless steel for sculptures. The action of time on the material through oxidation, was a necessary means of expression for him. By consciously employing rust and the action of rainwater on metal and paper, he created unique ‘rust drawings’ - a technique that reflects his fascination with time, impermanence and nature. His paintings (Ferro prints) and reliefs were also made with metal (oxides). #amsterdam750
