Dit ceremoniële Bagh-Chal spel – volledig uitgevoerd in massief messing – is zo’n zeldzaam object uit de Nepalese bergcultuur, waar spel en ritueel samenvielen. Geen souvenir, geen decor; dit is een tactisch gevecht dat eeuwenlang symbool stond voor de balans tussen roofdier en offerdier, instinct en strategie.

Bagh-Chal (“Tijger & Geiten”) is het nationale spel van Nepal. Vier tijgers trachten twintig geiten te vangen, terwijl de geiten het roofdier moeten omsingelen. Een spel van geduld, intuïtie en macht – traditioneel gespeeld in tempelhoven, kloosters en dorpspleinen. Deze set, duidelijk bedoeld voor een welgesteld huis of officiëel huishouden, is uitzonderlijk door gewicht, gravure en volledigheid.

Het bord is handgehamerd, de lijnen fijn gegraveerd en de stukken – vier tijgers, twintig geiten – individueel gevormd. De groene oxidatie aan de onderzijde verraadt ouderdom en autenticiteit. Dit is geen reisversie, maar een object dat zichtbaar moest blijven; een gespreksonderwerp op tafels waar verhalen belangrijker waren dan uitkomst.

Voor verzamelaars van tribal art, curiosa en Oosterse mystiek is dit geen spel, maar een icoon.
