Jean Gilletta (1856–1933) - Panorama de Monaco – Vue Générale

Panorama de Monaco – Vue Générale (c.1890–1905) Photographer / Studio: Attributed to Jean Gilletta (1856–1933) or his studio (signed G.J. Phot) Technique: Albumen print (sepia toned), mounted on original photographer’s board with printed title “Panorama de Monaco – Vue Générale” and gilt studio mark “G.J. Phot” in the lower right corner. Dimensions: Photograph: 56.7 × 20.8 cm Frame: 66.80 cm x 33 cm x 3 cm Description: Panoramic photograph of Monaco, offering a sweeping view of the Rock of Monaco (Le Rocher) with the Prince’s Palace, the harbour of Port Hercule, and the surrounding cityscape during the Belle Époque period. This image beautifully captures the early urban fabric of the Principality before major 20th-century redevelopment. The panoramic composition and sepia tonality are typical of late-19th-century Riviera photography. The monogram “G.J. Phot” corresponds to the signature used by Jean Gilletta, the most prominent photographer and postcard publisher of the French Riviera around 1880–1910, whose studio produced numerous views of Monaco, Nice, and Monte-Carlo. Condition: Good antique condition overall. • The image retains good contrast and tonal depth. • Light surface wear and a few small marks consistent with age. • Minor rubbing and small edge wear on the mount. • Reverse side blank, no inscriptions or stamps. Please see photos for a complete visual impression of condition. Provenance: Private European collection. The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured post with a track and trace number. It can also be collected from Amsterdam, The Netherlands #ExclusivePhotographersStudio
