No. 98709399

Paper knife - Iron (cast/wrought)
A superb and rare wrought iron paper knife smithed from a single fragment of shrapnel from a German artillery shell from the battle of Liège (5-16 August 1914), that marked the first battle of the First World War.
Measuring 23,2cm in length and weighing 155g, engraved to one side of the blade with the image of a Belgian infantryman, "1914" and the word Liège, to the reverse with Belgian crest of arms and motto l´Union Fait la Force.
Buyers please note that this is a souvenir of the great war and not a weapon. The blade is not sharp or strong enough and the handle is to fragmented and sharp to be held securely as a weapon. It is a letter opener and a piece of historical memorabilia from the Great War.
Condition: very good, no significant damages or repairs. Minor wear commensurate with age.
This lot will be carefully packaged and sent by registered and insured mail.
