The illustration features John Blacksad, Natalia Willford, and Weekly, captured with expressive graphite work, fine shading, and an inventive layout that adds narrative depth to the piece. The round inset character portrait and sharp contrasts create a tension reminiscent of classic detective fiction, yet reimagined through the lens of the artist’s own visual language.

Maren studied at the prestigious Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona under the guidance of his brother, the renowned illustrator Sanjulián. His career includes collaborations with international publishers such as Dell, Bantam, Fontana, Dove, and Mondadori. In the 1990s, he gained recognition in fantasy and sci-fi illustration, and was later commissioned to create official portraits of the Star Wars cast for the 1996 special edition.
