A very fine old 4/4 violin, labeled Io Bap. Rogerius Bon Nicolai Amati de Cremona alumnus Brixiae fecit Anno Domini 1677. The instrument is in ready to play condition with only one small repaired crack to left f-hole. The violin has a straight high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of softly flamed maple with matched sides and scroll. The inlaid purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the shining, golden brown varnish with tears and wears. The model is after Amati. The two pieces maple back measures 358 mm. The total length of the violin is 594 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 166 mm; middle bouts: 110 mm; lower bouts: 207 mm. The sound is very deep, rich, powerful, suitable for soloist.
