Walking stick - .925 silver, Maple - Tiger Maple Shaft
Late Victorian Silver-Mounted Walking Cane – Tiger Maple Shaft, c.1900–1910
Elegant late Victorian to early Edwardian gentleman’s walking cane featuring a finely figured tiger maple (flame birch) shaft with a beautiful rippled grain and warm amber patina. The cane is fitted with a silver collar and lower ferrule, both bearing British hallmarks (partly rubbed and indistinct). The fittings show minor dents consistent with age. This type of cane would have been used as a dress accessory rather than for support, reflecting refined late 19th-century taste and craftsmanship. A genuine period example with a handsome, richly coloured shaft. Beautiful natural figure to the wood; the flame pattern catches the light attractively. A fine decorative or collector’s piece.
Period: circa 1900–1910
Origin: United Kingdom
Materials: tiger maple shaft, silver mounts
Good antique condition overall; some minor dents to silver, age wear to the shaft, and a visible crack and repair at the lower end (see photos). Hallmarks partially rubbed.
