1955: Rolex presenta uno dei suoi orologi più riusciti e amati in assoluto: il GMT-MASTER o GMT-MASTER I. 
Il Gmt-Master è stato progettato per indicare l’ora di due fusi orari simultaneamente. La sua caratteristica distintiva è la lunetta bicolore che permette di distinguere le ore del giorno da quelle della notte.
 
1983: un nuovo capitolo di storia in casa Rolex: il GMT-MASTER II. 
Rolex introduce un nuovo calibro che permette di regolare la lancetta delle ore indipendentemente da quella dei minuti e dalla lancetta 24 ore. Per evitare qualsiasi confusione con i GMT‑Master esistenti, i modelli dotati del nuovo movimento sono stati chiamati GMT-MASTER II.
