Product characteristics The Macallan Edition No. 4 is a limited edition Edition of the Edition series, released in 2018 by The Macallan distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland, celebrating the heritage of whiskey production and a new distillery. It is a single malt without age declaration, maturing in a combination of European and American seasoned sherry oak barrels, including first and second fillings from different barrel sizes (e.g. hogsheads, butts, puncheons). Alcohol is 48.4% vol., which gives it an intense, balanced character with notes of sherry. The bottle has a distinctive shape with a green label, and the packaging contains a certificate of authenticity and edition information. Tasting notes The aroma opens richly with notes of honey, apple tree, ginger, dried fruits such as figs and raisins, vanilla, orange marmalade and subtle flowers and green wood. The flavour is dominated by an oily texture with spices such as nutmeg, black pepper and cloves, combined with chocolate, brown sugar, nuts, toffee and dried fruit, creating the impression of a rich, sherry-dominant composition with citrus accents. The finish is long, warm and sticky, with lingerising notes of spices, macadamia nuts, dark chocolate and light oak bitterness. The colour of the whiskey is golden syrup, which emphasises its visual appeal for collectors.
