Raozhou Kiln Carved Decorated Qingbai Washer

Delicately potted with a shallow circular form, the interior finely carved with a scrolling floral motif beneath a transparent bluish glaze of exceptional clarity. The glaze gathers to a slightly deeper tone in the recesses, while the unglazed footrim shows a compact white body with traces of kiln grit — a hallmark of the Raozhou kilns.

A representative work of the Raozhou kilns within the Jingdezhen qingbai tradition, this washer exemplifies the refined elegance prized by Southern Song scholars. Such vessels, often used beside the inkstone, embody the literati aesthetic of purity and quiet restraint that defined the age.
