Willem Diepraam - Lima - 1991
Original photographs by Willem Diepraam, portraying the social and economic condition of people in the slums and shanty towns of Lima, Peru. Commissioned by NOVIB.
Willem Diepraam (born 1944) was born in Amsterdam and first became interested in the photographic medium when he realized how successfully photo reportage could convey messages of social significance. Early influences from the Dutch Worker Photographer movement and photographer Ed van der Elsken led Diepraam to begin his career in the 1960s as a self-taught photojournalist working for a Dutch newspaper, Vrij Nederland.
