Esta moneda presenta en el anverso el busto de una figura alegórica femenina con una corona de hojas de laurel, representando la República. En el reverso se muestra el escudo de armas de Brasil rodeado por ramas de olivo y estrellas, junto con el lema "ORDEM E PROGRESSO". Fue acuñada en el contexto del sistema republicano establecido en Brasil tras la proclamación de la República en 1889.
