This is a Madeira cask finish, but not a typical one.
Glenmorangie first made bespoke casks from American oak, then heavily toasted them in Scotland.
These casks were then seasoned with Malmsey Madeira wine under the Madeira sun (hence Bacalta = baked).
Finally, they were brought back to Scotland, filled with Glenmorangie’s classic spirit (initially matured in ex-bourbon casks), and finished for several years.
The result: a very fruity, honeyed, and sun-drenched profile — a real dessert-style malt.

It was originally priced around €90 when launched in 2017 but has become collectible since it’s discontinued.
