A Magnificent Piece of French Art de la Table

An exquisite antique table sweeper from the renowned Gallia collection by the prestigious French silversmiths, Christofle.

Manufacturer: Christofle (France), under the Gallia line.

Period/Style: Likely Art Nouveau (Néo-Louis XV/Rocaille style), characteristic of the early Gallia production, circa 1900–1920.

Material: Silver-plated Gallia Metal (an innovative, durable tin-based alloy developed by Christofle).

Design: The piece features a highly decorative, deeply embossed relief showcasing flowing Rocaille and vegetal/foliate motifs along the edges of the shovel and the handle—a quintessential example of the period's love for natural, organic forms.

Function: Traditionally used to gracefully sweep crumbs from the dining table between courses.
