Megalodon - Fossil tooth - Carcharocles Megalodon - 11.3 cm - 8 cm

In this lot: A very nice Megalodon tooth from Sukabumi, Java, Indonesia. This is a lateral tooth. This tooth sat in the side of the jaw of the biggest shark that ever lived. The tooth helped hold the flesh of it's prey down before swallowing. There are 15 lateral teeth per side of the sharks jaw. They often have a little curve and are as most Megalodon teeth, a joy to look at! Size: 11,3 cm Quality: There are no repairs or restorations done on this piece! The tooth is completely intact. The serrations and tip are very sharp and have no chipping or other imperfections. On the back left side there is a superficial crack. It has a nice brown color with some lighter tones on the edges. Brown coloring is caused by tannins in the sediment where the tooth was buried. Tannins come from dead plant material. The bourlette has a complementing darker brown color. It is mostly intact with distinct lower edge. It has some imperfections as most Indonesian teeth have. The enamel on the front has no splits / grooves and is very smooth and shiny. The enamel on the back mostly goes down all the way to the root. Something that is a bit rarer with Indonesian Megalodon teeth. The root has complete and very pointy lobes. It has a nice reddish color. Especially the lower part of the lobes show a lot of original root. Which makes this a very nice piece for any collection! Due to import tax and high risks in losing parcels will NOT ship to United States
