This is a commemorative framed relief featuring the famous D51 steam locomotive No. 1161, produced by Japanese National Railways (JNR). The D51, also known as “Degoichi”, was one of Japan’s most iconic steam locomotives, first introduced in 1936. This piece was created as an achievement award presented by the Director of the Kagoshima Railway Bureau in 1981 (Showa 56).
