This whisky, with its distinctly Swedish name Smögen, is the result of a decade of hard work, passion, and unwavering commitment to quality. It's the fruit of the passion project of whisky enthusiast and former lawyer Pär Caldenby. He built the distillery on Sweden's west coast almost single-handedly. His goal was clear from the start: inspired by the rich and smoky Islay malts, he wanted to create a Swedish craft whisky. Traditional methods, a robust character, an old-school whisky through and through. The Smögen Whisky 100 Proof 6 Year Old Sherry Quarter Casks Batch 2 impressively demonstrates his success.

The Smögen 100 Proof was matured for six years in low-ceilinged Swedish warehouses in sherry quarter casks. The rich, earthy, smoky character blends skillfully with the spice and fruit notes from the sherry quarter casks, creating a unique richness of flavor. The 100 proof, or 57.1% ABV, gives the whisky tremendous power, perfectly underscoring its unique character. Smögen is, of course, produced without added coloring or chill filtration, offering you a truly exceptional, natural whisky experience. A whisky for whisky nerds, enthusiasts, and connoisseurs who want to explore the full potential of Scandinavian whisky.

Whisky icon Serge from whiskyfun.com awarded this Swedish insider tip 91 out of 100 points – an exceptional score from the discerning Frenchman. This heavily peated single malt is made from Scottish peated malt. The entire production process is geared towards a robust style, inspired by the character of many Islay whiskies. Traditional methods such as direct heating of the small Scottish pot stills, cooling with Wortub condensers, and long fermentation times demonstrate that Smögen is serious about its "quality over quantity" approach. It is therefore no wonder that Smögen, thanks to its excellent quality, has a far greater demand than the distillery can meet.

Aroma: Caramel and nut pralines rise from the glass, accompanied by raisins and delicate roasted notes. Over time, earthy notes and aromas of old tobacco boxes emerge.

Taste: An extremely aromatic start with meaty and spicy flavors. Extreme contrasts unite to create a brilliant experience. Buttery caramel and tar, cigar tobacco and Asian spices, red fruits, and Lapsang Souchong smoked tea.

Finish: Long and smoky with maritime notes, burnt pine, and salty licorice.
