This is a magnificent French frame dating to around 1870, distinguished by its exuberant return to the gallant and curvilinear spirit of the Rococo. Far from austere, this piece is a celebration of giltwood and ornamental carving, and is in impeccable condition, making it a strikingly elegant and unique choice, ideal for creating a distinguished mirror.

The frame features a complex and deeply theatrical profile, with overall dimensions of 93 x 77 cm and an interior opening or sight size of 72 x 57 cm. Its structure is defined by a rich gilt surface, where the artisan's skill is evident in the unparalleled quality of the water gilding and the perfect preservation of the patina.

Exuberant ornamentation is the essence of the design: the main molding is dominated by thick Rococo wreaths and garlands of carved and gilded wood, which intertwine fluidly and gracefully, creating a luxurious and continuous foliage effect. Unlike austere Neoclassical moldings, the outer and inner edges are marked by a profusion of rocaille, asymmetrical scrolls, and cascading flowers, typical of the Louis XV style. However, the distinctive feature that elevates the piece is the beauty of the veneer selected by the cabinetmaker for the flat sections. This subtle interplay of textures, where the luxurious gilding of the carving contrasts with the warm, carefully chosen grain of the natural wood visible in the reserves, lends the frame a character of sophisticated and unique elegance, transcending mere ostentation.
