Bo-Ex - Preben Fabricius & Jørgen Kastholm - Coffee table - BO-551 - Steel, Glass

Coffee table by Preben Fabricius & Jørgen Kastholm for Bo-Ex 1960s Denmark “BO-551” Brushed steel and glass 43cm high, 140cm wide, 76.5cm deep Preben Fabricius (1931–1984) trained as a cabinetmaker under Niels Vodder before studying interior design under Finn Juhl at the Copenhagen School for Interior Design, where he met Jørgen Kastholm (1931–2007)—then a blacksmith‑turned‑designer. In 1961, they founded their design studio in Gentofte, Denmark, united by a shared dedication to minimalism, structural honesty, and uncompromised quality. They caught the attention of the German manufacturer Alfred Kill, and by 1965 had begun producing with both Kill in Germany and Bo‑Ex in Denmark. Their partnership garnered international acclaim: at the Cologne Fair in 1966 they introduced their now-famous Tulip, Grasshopper and Scimitar chairs. They received prestigious awards such as Germany’s Gute Form and the Illum Prize. Although their collaboration ended in 1968, their designs—particularly the Bo‑Ex editions—have endured, remaining in production and in museum collections. Good condition - some scratches on the glass and steel.
