Description from the seller
Magnificent large anthropomorphic Toby Jug in tin-glazed earthenware with a polychrome decoration called 'at high fire and low fire.'
This figurative-shaped piece depicts a bearded man sitting, dressed in a rich tunic of oriental style or a jacket adorned with vivid floral motifs (stylized flowers, foliage) in shades of yellow, green, orange-brown rust, and blue on an enameled white background.
Decor details: The cylindrical base is richly decorated with circular reserves or painted cartouches in blue camaïeu underglaze, depicting scenes of Dutch landscapes, typically fishermen or rural characters, contrasting with the polychrome floral decoration of the body.
Height of approximately 31 cm.
• Function: Pitcher/Jug (Toby Jug).
Epoch and Attribution
• Style: The object is in the Delft Polychrome style of the 18th century, inspired by both Japanese Imari porcelain and traditional Dutch décors.
Condition
Very good overall condition considering the fragility of the faience.
Wears: Some minor signs of wear or small chips on the enamel, especially on the edges and the base. (Check and mention any obvious restoration.)
• Patina: Beautiful wear patina.
