Walking stick - .925 silver

Victorian Silver Pommel Walking Cane – Malacca Shaft, c.1890 A refined Victorian gentleman’s walking cane, featuring a repoussé silver pommel finely chased with scrolling foliate decoration and an engraved monogram to the crown. The silver bears hallmarks, though they are now indistinct and illegible, typical of age and use. The shaft is crafted from malacca cane, prized for its honey-golden colour, natural mottling, and durable yet lightweight character. Malacca was imported from the Malay Peninsula and became the favoured material for elegant canes throughout the late 19th century. The cane terminates in a metal ferrule at the base. Good antique condition with minor age-related wear; small surface marks to the shaft and light dents to the silver consistent with use. Malacca canes were regarded as the epitome of refinement in the Victorian era, valued for both their exotic origin and pleasing tactile quality. Silver-mounted examples such as this were popular accessories for gentlemen of fashion, often commissioned from leading London makers.
