Leerdam Glas Fabriek - Andries Dirk Copier - Vase - Spijkervaas - Glass

One of the famous 'nail' vases designed by the glass artist Andries Dirk Copier (1901- 1991) for the Leerdam Glass factory. This thick, heavy (998 gram) vase has not the more common rectangular pattern of air bubbles, but a beautiful wave. This hand blown vase is designed and made shortly before the outbreak of WW2. The vase is in excellent condition, no chalk shade. Only the usual small signs of wear at the edge of the bottom. Copier was the most important glass artist of his time in The Netherlands. His designs were almost exclusively made by Glasfabriek Leerdam. Copier’s work was influenced by the most recent technical discoveries and art movements like Bauhaus, resulting in personal contemporary designs.
