This colour silkscreen from 1992, titled Composition, showcases the vibrant geometric abstraction and optical dynamism that define the work of Jesús Rafael Soto (1923–2005), one of the most important figures of Kinetic and Op Art in the 20th century. Printed on high-quality Arches paper, this piece features a rhythmic grid of vertical stripes and rectangles in pure hues—red, blue, green, black, and white—creating an optical vibration and a sensation of depth and movement that engages the viewer's perception.

The work is hand-signed by the artist in the lower right margin and numbered 139/250. It also bears the official Olympic seal.

Jesús Rafael Soto is considered a foundational figure in the development of kinetic and optical art, alongside contemporaries such as Victor Vasarely, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Yaacov Agam, Bridget Riley, and Julio Le Parc. His work explores the dissolution of form, optical instability, and the active role of the viewer, aligning him with broader movements in post-war abstraction, constructivism, and minimalism.

Soto’s works are held in the collections of major institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Caracas.

His artistic practice also shares a visual and conceptual dialogue with artists such as François Morellet, Antonio Asis, Nicolas Schöffer, Heinz Mack, Otto Piene, Günther Uecker, Horacio García Rossi, Marcel Duchamp (in his exploration of motion), and later minimalist and conceptual figures like Sol LeWitt, Donald Judd, Dan Flavin, Frank Stella, Kenneth Noland, Ellsworth Kelly, Josef Albers, and Ad Reinhardt. In terms of chromatic experimentation and spatial abstraction, he resonates with Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, Yves Klein, Imi Knoebel, Blinky Palermo, Anselm Kiefer, Sigmar Polke, Gerhard Richter, and even contemporary figures such as Jeppe Hein and Olafur Eliasson.

Condition:
Very good overall condition. Colours are vivid and the print surface is well preserved. Paper is clean with no staining. There are two very minor creases in the corners, which do not affect the image area and are only visible upon close inspection. Unframed.
