Description from the seller
This type of rattan plinth or plant table is often attributed to or is in the style of the Italian designer Gabriella Crespi.
Products made in this style in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s are referred to as "Gabriella Crespi style," though it is unknown whether it is her original work. The design was popular in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s and was produced by several Italian manufacturers.
Since the origin cannot be determined by a mark or sticker, I indicate my country of origin, the Netherlands.
Key features of the plinth design:
The base is made of pencil reed rattan, thin, vertical canes. The column's sleek, vertical lines contrast with the wider, horizontal lines of the top and bottom, creating an elegant and graphic effect.
The rattan stems create a texture that's visually much lighter than solid wood or a stone base. Each stem has its own natural color and is attached with multiple nails. Not all are at exactly the same height, which, along with the color variation, creates a playful element. Rattan is a natural, lightweight material and naturally appears "lighter" than dark oak or solid furniture.
Lighter doesn't necessarily mean it's sturdy. Your plant or showpiece will have a solid base with this pedestal; it weighs 14.5 kg. The rattan may appear untreated, but it has a clear lacquer finish.
Dimensions of the base
Height 75 cm
Depth 25 cm
Width 50 cm
Weight 14.5 kg
Explanation of higher shipping costs. Please check your shipping costs before bidding, as these depend on factors such as weight.
The plinth has been photographed from all sides. Please examine the photos carefully; they form part of the description. One pencil reed is damaged at one point in one top corner. Therefore, the condition is considered fair. The plinth's overall condition shows signs of wear consistent with its age. A plaster or glue-like substance is visible in a single seam. Because the lacquer layer is overlaid, I believe this is part of the production process. The differences in saw lengths and the irregularity of the nailing demonstrate the craftsman's expertise.
The plinth will be shipped to you well packed and insured.
