Description from the seller
LALIQUE FRANCE – Sculpture 'Eagle with Spread Wings' in opalescent glass
Mid-20th century (around 1950-1960), under the direction of Marc Lalique
Exceptional and very rare sculpture of a golden eagle in full flight, with majestically spread wings, perched on a crystalline base carved in a diamond point.
Made from pure opalescent glass, this piece offers the famous 'milky' opalescence highly sought after by enthusiasts: an almost lunar nacreous white that, depending on the angle of the light, takes on iridescent bluish reflections, sometimes slightly violet, giving the bird an almost living and supernatural presence. This optical illusion, achieved through the precise incorporation of phosphorus into the glass paste and complete hand polishing, remains one of the most technically challenging signatures of the Lalique house. Each feather is carved with extraordinary finesse, the powerful claws grip the crystalline rock, and the gaze is piercing: all details testify to the absolute level of excellence of the workshops in Wingen-sur-Moder at that time.
Height: 13.5 cm
Wingspan: about 20 cm
Signature: 'Lalique France' on the base.
Condition: perfect, no scratches or chips, the opalescence is intact and deep.
Presentation: Lalique original box made of black cardboard and velvet (very rare and preserved).
This piece has not been reissued to date, produced in very limited series during the 1950s-1960s. Fewer than a hundred known copies have been on the global market over the past twenty years. It is referenced and illustrated in the post-1945 archives of the Lalique house and is regularly offered at major auction houses and now on Catawiki.
A true gem for discerning collectors, symbolizing power, freedom, and spiritual elevation, which will enhance a Art Deco or contemporary interior with a unique luminous presence.
