Description from the seller

Formed in the warm Cretaceous seas that covered what is now Madagascar, this beautifully matched ammonite pair captures the quiet geometry of a marine creature that lived more than one hundred million years ago. Each half reveals the spiral chambers in clear definition, polished to a warm translucence where honey brown, amber gold and soft tobacco tones flow together across the shell. When placed side by side the two halves open like a fossilised heart, their inner architecture exposed with remarkable clarity.

Along the outer surface a completely different character emerges. The natural mineral replacement has produced an extraordinary flame like pattern, a mosaic of burnt orange, soft gold and olive stone that resembles rising tongues of fire frozen in place. This aesthetic is highly characteristic of select ammonite deposits of the Mahajanga Province in Madagascar, where calcite and aragonite fill the old chambers and iron rich minerals create these dramatic colour transitions. The polish brings a gentle glow to the surface, lifting the warm amber tones toward the light and highlighting the rhythmic flow of each chamber.

More than a decorative fossil this specimen is a direct remnant of an ocean long vanished. Its chambers once functioned as buoyancy compartments through which the living animal adjusted its depth. Today they stand as a perfect natural design, cut and prepared to display the full internal map of the shell. This pair is ideal for collectors who appreciate both authenticity and aesthetic presence, whether for a curated fossil cabinet or as a centrepiece alongside minerals and gemstones in a mixed display.

Matched polished ammonite pair with striking flame like outer pattern and well preserved internal chamber structure typical of high quality Madagascan material.
