1967 Giacomo Borgogno - Barolo Riserva - 2 Bottles (0.72L)

The history of Marchesi di Barolo is a noble one rooted in the blood of the French Revolution. Countess Juliette Colbert de Maulevrier, great-granddaughter of the famous finance minister at the court of Louis XIV of France, escaped the guillotine because she was studying at a boarding school in Holland, while the rest of her family was executed by the revolutionaries. Juliette Colbert remains the sole survivor of an extremely wealthy dynasty, inheriting the land in Reims where the family's wine, served at the French court, was produced. It was Camillo Benso di Cavour, the Italian Prime Minister, who introduced Giulia Colbert to the Piedmontese Count Carlo Tancredi Falletti di Barolo, whom she soon married. Giulia brought the court oenologist from France, who restored the vineyards and introduced the use of wood.
