Ancient Roman Glass Bracelet (No Reserve Price)

An Ancient Roman bangle created from attractive black glass. The bangle is circular in shape and possesses a regular loop. The thickened hoop has beautifully curved sides and a flatter interior. The surface of the glass presents minor abrasions consistent with age, along with soil encrustations and iridescence to the surface. Glass production evolved during the Roman Empire with the introduction of glassblowing, which allowed for a great variety of different shapes and styles to be constructed. The technique allowed for easier manipulation of the glass into more intricate designs allowing the vessels to have an assortment of designs and functions. Bracelets and bangles, alongside rings, were the most common accessories for babies and children. They were also often included as grave goods, supplying many well-surviving examples today. Dimensions: W 8cm Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman, bought 1970s and by descent. N.B. Delivery may be longer due to the busier period and we do not guarantee delivery before Christmas. Items paid for after the 19th December will be shipped after the New Year (week commencing on the 5th January 2026). **There will be an additional fee incurred for returned shipments due to buyer’s non-response to customs enquiries and/or unsuccessful delivery attempts.**
