Description from the seller
Elegant altar candlestick in carved and gilded wood, 'Mecca'-style, characterized by refined sculptural workmanship. The tripartite base features finely modeled lion feet, typical of Sicilian production from the late eighteenth century to the early decades of the nineteenth century. The shaft, slender and well-balanced in proportions, is decorated with vertical fluting and enriched with neoclassical leaf motifs, including skillfully carved acanthus leaves.
The gilding in Mecca, still well preserved in its warm and luminous tones, gives the piece a precious and solemn appearance. There are ancient and more recent restoration interventions, carried out with respect for the original material and in a non-invasive manner, which today ensure good stability and aesthetic readability.
Sicily, early 19th century.
Object of particular interest for collectors and for sacred or decorative settings with a historical taste.
