This is an original copperplate print titled “Seated Figure” (座像) by renowned Japanese artist Shosuke Osawa (1903–1997). Executed with minimalist yet expressive line work on a vibrant red background, the artwork captures the poised presence of a seated woman, rendered with elegance and simplicity. This particular piece is an EA edition (Épreuve d’Artiste), indicating it was reserved for the artist. It features Osawa’s authentic pencil signature at the bottom. The print is professionally framed with a transparent front sheet and remains in excellent condition. A rare and collectible work by a major figure in 20th-century Japanese art.

Artist Profile:
Shosuke Osawa (1903–1997) was born in Tokyo and graduated from the Western Painting Department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1928. He actively exhibited with the Nika Association from 1929 and became a prominent member. In 1954, he was appointed professor at Tama Art University, serving until 1970. Osawa showcased his works in numerous international exhibitions including the Salon de Mai, International Figurative Exhibitions, and the São Paulo Biennale. Evolving from figurative representation to abstraction, he established his unique artistic world. In addition to oil painting, he dedicated himself to printmaking with vigor. He passed away in 1997.
