About the Elto Pal (for collectors and enthusiasts)
The Elto Pal was introduced in 1938 as part of the storied evolution of Ole Evinrude’s engineering legacy. Its lineage traces back to a pivotal chapter in outboard history: after selling his first company in 1913, Ole Evinrude formed ELTO—Evinrude Light Twin Outboard—a brand created during his contractual five-year non-compete. ELTO quickly became renowned for lightweight aluminum innovation, and by the late 1930s the Pal stood out as one of the lightest outboards ever produced, weighing just 14 lbs.
Within the Outboard Motors Corporation (OMC) family of brands, the Pal represented the nimble, efficient, accessible line—an engine beloved for its simplicity, charm, and portability. Surviving examples in this condition, particularly with unique custom finishes, are increasingly rare.
