Amulet made of green-glazed faience from ancient Egypt representing the dwarf god Bes in the form of a plaque. Bes appears in a frontal position, crouching, wearing a headdress of ostrich feathers. The amulets have a flat, unworked reverse side, and both are perforated lengthwise so that they can be hung. Bes or Bisu was an ancient Egyptian deity represented as a dwarf. He was a complex being who had many functions. He was a god of war, but he was also the protector of women during childbirth and of the home. Provenance: Obtained from I. L.C.; previously in old British collection formed before the 1960s; Pax Romana, United Kingdom, 2021; Former Pablo H. Goizauskas Collection, Spain, 2025 Statement seen by Catawiki.
