Description from the seller

Elegant Alpaca Centerpiece - Neo-Rococo/ Rococo Revival Style
This magnificent centerpiece is a piece of metalwork that stands out for its design and classic ornamentation, offering a touch of distinction and elegance from the late 19th or early 20th century. It is ideal as a centerpiece for a dining table, a sideboard, or in any collection of antique metalwork.
-Material: Alpaca (also known as Maillechort or German Silver). A metal prized for its silver-like luster.
-Technique: High-quality repoussé and casting technique.
-Period: 1870-1910:
-Style: Neo-Rococo / Rococo Revival - Evident in the elegantly curved handles with scrolls and acanthus leaves, in the four pedestals modeled as stylized fish marine creatures.
-Origin: French. Typical of workshops that produced high-quality fine alpaca at the time.
-Mark/Stamp: The base bears the maker's mark "ALPACA A M," identifying the material and the goldsmith's mark.
-Ornamentation: The piece exhibits rich visual complexity:
*Bowl and Base: A wide upper body and a flared base with vertical grooves give it a sculptural presence.
*Handles: Two handles with scroll and foliage details add movement and sophistication.
*Supports: The most unique feature is the four cast fish that serve as pillars between the bowl and the base, lending a marine and mythological touch.
-Measurements: Total Height: 26 cm x Bowl Diameter: 26,3 cm x Base Diameter: 16,5cm; More measurements in the photos.
-Condition: In good antique condition. Solid structure with all ornamental details preserved. It features a natural dark patina in the raised areas and the expected signs of wear for an antique silver-plated metal piece, which do not detract from its beauty and can be polished if desired. There are no noticeable dents. See all photos for more and better details.
-Versatility: This is a striking piece, ideal as a decorative centerpiece, a luxurious fruit bowl, or a distinguished focal point in a collector's display case.
This centerpiece is more than just an antique; it is a style statement that encapsulates the rich blend of artistic influences of its time.
