Bronze Age bronze arrowhead with a triangular blade, prominent central midrib, short cylindrical stem and long tang, measuring 12.6 cm by 2.3 cm, in good condition with patina and surface encrustations, provenance Ex. London Collection, acquired in 2000.
Description from the seller
A fine Bronze Age bronze arrowhead, featuring a triangular blade, pointed shoulders and a prominent central midrib. The blade descends into a short cylindrical stem, leading to a long and narrow tang. The blade presents with sharp barbs. A lovely patina and earthly encrustations to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chips to the edges of the blade and one shoulder, scratches, and surface roughness.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites settled in the Western Asiatic region. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of these bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Most of these bronze items have been recovered in funerary contexts.
Measurements: L 12.6cm X W 2.3cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
