Description from the seller
For Vases Petrus Regout & Co. (Maastricht)
Period: 1860–1890
Glazed faience, cobalt decoration (transfer printing)
I offer a unique, collectible pair of vases marked with a stamped 'R' sign, originating from the Petrus Regout & Co. manufactory in Maastricht – one of the oldest and most esteemed ceramic manufacturers in the Netherlands.
Vases were produced in the second half of the 19th century (around 1860–1890), which is confirmed by both the form, the technique of execution, and the characteristic signature used during this period by Regout.
Producer: Petrus Regout & Co., Maastricht
Signature: embossed letter "R" in the cartouche – a mark used by the manufacturer between 1860 and 1890.
Material: high-quality glazed faience.
Decoration technique: cobalt-colored transfer printing (transfer printing, meaning transferring a pattern via paper) was used in Regout, and plant patterns in cobalt color appeared in their range, especially in the 19th century.
Motif: a classic botanical ornament in the Dutch style from the Victorian era.
Shape: elegant, expanding upwards with a rolled edge; bellies with a full, harmonious line.
Condition: very good for its age; natural signs of use and patina add authenticity to the items.
Collector's qualities - original products by Petrus Regout & Co. from the 19th century are becoming increasingly rare on the market, especially in pairs. The cobalt decor is one of the most sought-after styles among ceramic collectors in Maastricht. The embossed signature 'R' is a rare production mark used during the transitional period before the full Sphinx logo was introduced. Perfect for display in classic, vintage, rustic, and eclectic interiors. The weight of the vases - 1-1258g; 2-1373g. Base dimension - 10cm.
