The DeVry Corporation was founded in 1913 by Herman Adolf DeVry (1876–1941), an inventor and aviator. DeVry is credited with creating the first portable movie projector, which he called the Theatre in a Suitcase. Born in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin region of Germany in 1876, Herman DeVry arrived in America with his family at the age of 10, disembarking at the port of New York in the summer of 1886. Young Herman was soon fascinated by the new and emerging cinematic technology—beginning with the early films of Louis Le Prince in 1888 and moving on to Edison's kinetoscopes on display at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, where the working-class DeVry family had established their residence.
This set weighs 13.9 kg and is a great addition to any vintage film collection or to decorate a space.
The last four images are for reference only and are not part of the lot.
