Description from the seller

Antique jewelry box in straw marquetry – decor of a sailing ship and house – 19th century – 21 x 15.5 x 7 cm

Description :

Rare wooden jewelry box decorated with straw marquetry, probably of French or Italian origin, dating from the 19th century.

The lid is finely decorated with a three-mast schooner in front of a port or village scene, featuring colorful buildings and stylized vegetation. Inside, there is an antique mirror (dented and oxidized, typical of its era) and three compartments, two of which have decorated lids. The panels are beautifully crafted with dyed straw, depicting flowers and houses in a naive style.

A beautiful example of European folk art, crafted with patience and skill.
