Description from the seller

Welcome to this special sale of books by authors listed in the Photobook by Parr & Badger. 'Wounded Cities' by Leo Rubinstein is listed in Photobook, volume III, page 204. It features 300 pages and 84 photographs in black and white and color, mostly fold-outs, with an orange hardcover and illustrated dust jacket.

To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, then you can return to the standard display at any time.

In 2001, Leo Rubinfien, his wife, and their young children moved into a new apartment next to the World Trade Center in New York. They witnessed the violence of September 11 and fled with those evacuated, then later returned to a damaged home and a city whose wounds remained fresh from years before. The physical destruction of Manhattan was visible to all, but Rubinfien quickly understood that the 'psychological wound,' invisible, was far deeper. In 2002, he began photographing cities around the world that had recently suffered terrorist attacks. Over five years, he visited places like London, Nairobi, Kuta Beach, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Istanbul, and Colombo, carefully observing ordinary people and scrutinizing their faces to understand how the tense atmosphere of this period of terror had marked their lives. 'Wounded Cities' gathers 60 photographs with intense evocative power from this project and an autobiographical account where Rubinfien explores the anxiety and political passions of September 11 and its repercussions, in an intimate style close to his photographic art. The original layout of the book – each page is a printed fold-out – intertwines Rubinfien's words and images to create one of the most original hybrid works ever produced in the field of photography. The paradox of this photography book is that many of the photographs are hidden behind the text and printed within an internal fold-out.

Copy in excellent condition, with the exception of a small fold on one page. Rarest, this is the copy in the best condition available on the internet. A book from my personal collection, kept with the utmost care. Shipped securely with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracked postal service. For multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
