Description from the seller
➤Materials & Craftsmanship:
The "Gabbeh" rug is a hand-knotted wool rug with cotton warps and wefts. The rugs are hand-knotted using Ghazni wool, a variety of wool unique to Afghanistan known for its luxuriant finish as well as its unique way of absorbing colour which gives the rugs Abrash - the technical term used to describe the mottled effect given by each strand of wool's subtle variation of colour.
➤Weaving Quality & Durability
With 489,000 hand-tied knots, the rug features the Turkish (double) knot technique, making it denser, more durable, and longer-lasting than Persian rugs.

The Story of the "Gabbeh" Rug
The Gabbeh rug is a reflection of nomadic artistry, handwoven by the Qashqai, Lur, and Kurdish tribes of southwestern Iran. With its bold colors and minimalistic design, it embodies both simplicity and deep cultural heritage.
Symbolism & Meaning
Gabbeh rugs feature abstract patterns, geometric shapes, and stylized animals or trees, symbolizing nature, life, and personal storytelling. Each piece is unique, woven with intuition rather than rigid patterns.
Cultural Significance & Legacy
Once made for personal use, Gabbeh rugs became internationally recognized for their thick wool texture, natural dyes, and contemporary appeal. Today, they remain highly valued for their authenticity, warmth, and artistic charm.
