Description from the seller

Japanese Lacquer Box with Maki-e Cranes and Imperial Chrysanthemum Crest
Refined Japanese rectangular lacquer box decorated in gold maki-e. The lid depicts two cranes in elegant flight among softly dispersed gold clouds, symbols of longevity and good fortune. Above them is a 16-petal chrysanthemum crest, the emblem of the Japanese Imperial House. The execution shows fine control of shading and detail, and the piece is signed at the lower right.
The interior is finished in a light nashiji (pear-skin) lacquer, giving a subtle golden shimmer, while the underside remains in glossy black lacquer. Very good overall condition.
Japan, Shiwa era, 1926-1989
Technique: Maki-e and nashiji lacquer on wood
Dimensions: 33x25x8 cm
Sold together with its original storage box
