Herkimer diamonds are double-terminated quartz crystals found in exposed dolomite outcrops in and around Herkimer County, New York, and in the Mohawk River Valley in the USA.
It is not about diamonds; the name 'Diamant' owes itself to its purity and the well-formed surfaces.
Since the first finds were made in the village of Middleville or in the city of Little Falls, the crystal is also called the Middleville Diamond or Little Falls Diamond.
Herkimer diamonds gained great fame after workers discovered them in large quantities while mining the dolomite in the Mohawk River Valley in the late 18th century.
Geologists discovered exposed dolomite in the outcrops of Herkimer County and began mining there, which led to the name 'Herkimer Diamond.'
Double-ended quartz crystals are found worldwide.
Shipping as insured registered mail.
