Stunning impressionistic summer landscape near Rhenen with a farmstead, a farmer, a haystack, a pond garden, chickens, a blooming apple tree, and a view of a meadow bordered by trees.
En plein air painted in oil on panel by David Schulman, Amsterdam 1881-1960 Laren NH. circa 1920.
David Schulman was an artist, watercolorist, and draftsman. He received guidance from well-known painters from Laren but was mainly self-taught, although he also received instructions from his father, the artist Lionel Schulman.
Lived and worked in Laren NH, sometimes in Noordwijk and Rhenen, and around the Zuiderzee.
Described landscapes, village scenes, harbors, still lifes, and portraits in a naturalistic impressionist style.
In 1909, the Willem van Collen Prize, a bronze medal at the exhibition in Santiago, a silver medal at the International Exhibition in San Francisco, and the gold medal from Queen Wilhelmina in 1913.
Member of the Gooise Schildersvereniging, Arti et Amicitia, Sint Lucas, and Pulchri Studio in The Hague.
