Figure of the god Nefertum. Ancient Egypt, Late Period 664 - 332 BC. Bronze. 16.5 cm height and 19.5 cm with the stand. Condition: Good condition. The feet are missing. PROVENANCE: - Blanchard Museum, Cairo, before 1970. -Private collection, France. DESCRIPTION: Nefertem, also spelled Nefertum, or Nefertemu, in ancient Egyptian religion, youthful god associated with the lotus flower. Nefertem was an ancient god, mentioned in the Pyramid Texts (c. 2350 BCE), but he became more prominent during the New Kingdom (1539–c. 1075 BCE) and later. As a blue lotus he was believed to have emerged from the primeval waters. He also had a warlike aspect and could be depicted as a lion. He was most commonly represented holding a scimitar with a falcon’s head and wearing a headdress of a lotus with a menat (ritual necklace counterpoise) on each side and a pair of plumes above. As the son of Ptah and Sekhmet, he formed part of the Memphite triad. Notes: - The piece includes authenticity certificate. - The piece includes Spanish Export License (Passport for European Union) - If the piece is destined outside the European Union a substitution of the export permit should be requested, can take between 1-2 weeks maximum. - The seller guarantees that he acquired this piece according to all national and international laws related to the ownership of cultural property.
