Description from the seller
This extraordinary Hamilton Square from 1926 represents a masterpiece of American watchmaking of the era. The 14K white gold case encloses a particularly luminous dial, a distinctive feature of models in this series.
The 986A movement, equipped with 17 jewels and caliber 6/0, guarantees the reliability characteristic of Hamilton mechanisms of this generation. What makes this particular example especially interesting is its transition to the 987 movement, introduced in 1927 with the addition of the second hand.
The dimensional differences between these two calibers necessitated the creation of dedicated cases, giving the Square models of 1926 and 1927 a unique construction.
In the same period, Hamilton expanded their collection with the 'geometric' Barrel model in 1927 and the Tonneau shape in 1928, consolidating their position in the international watch market.
The Square remained in production until 1930, available in both men's and women's versions. Notably, it lacks the register for the second hand in the 986A movement, a feature that gives this watch a particular charm, testament to functional elegance without compromise. Dimensions: 35 x 28 mm.
