Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy by Gianni Berengo Gardin (born in 1930) on the title page, unique and unavailable in signed copies. 128 pages and 102 black and white photographs, some in double pages. Brief introductory texts about Scanno in Italian and a short interview with Mario Giacomelli and Gianni Berengo Gardin at the end of the book. Grey cloth publisher's binding and illustrated dust jacket. Very good overall condition.
To better view the photographic series, double-click on a photograph to access full-screen images in a module equipped with forward/back functions, which you can also exit at any time to return to the standard display.
Scanno is a bleak and isolated village in the low mountains of the Abruzzo region, made famous in the photographic world by some photographs by Henri Cartier Bresson from 1953 and later by Mario Giacomelli in 1957. Gianni Berengo Gardin photographed this village just before 1970 as part of the volume on Abruzzo commissioned by the Touring Club d’Italia, and he returned there in the 1980s for a longer stay, which allowed him to create this exceptional book. These photographs present, in a comprehensive sequence, the surrounding landscapes, the architecture of the houses and palaces, the perspective of the streets with their stairs, as well as the daily life of the inhabitants, and of course, they show us women with their distinctive traditional headdresses. The subtitle of the book is also as follows: 'A country that does not change'.
Book from my personal collection in very good overall condition despite a curious moisture mark on the bottom of the binding, which does not affect the rest of the book or the dust jacket and is barely visible in the photo. Copy preserved as is with the utmost care. Shipped protected with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracked postal service. For multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with a refund of any excess postal fees paid via Paypal.
